The SINTEF Group is the largest independent non-profit research organisation in Scandinavia. Its 2100 employees create value for clients in about 60 different countries via multidisciplinary research and development. SINTEF is primarily located in Trondheim and Oslo and operates in partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim and the University of Oslo. The Department of Networked Systems and Services within the Division of Information and Communication Technology (SINTEF ICT) takes part in this project. This department is located in Oslo and provides research-based expertise in model-driven engineering (MDE), quality and security technology, and human-computer interaction.

SINTEF will coordinate the project applying the international project management methodology that has been evolving over multiple framework projects, thus including both proven procedures and tools. In addition, SINTEF will contribute to the research and development of the project by reusing its expertise in MDE and in particular the results of some recent projects in this field:

  • The IP MODELPLEX  (MODELling solution for comPLEX software systems), running from 2006 to 2010, and providing techniques for model-based engineering and transformation
  • The FP7 STREP DiVA  (Dynamic Variability in complex, adaptive systems), running from 2008 to 2011, and providing solutions for model-based adaptation at both design time and run-time
  • The FP7 STREP REMICS  (Reuse and Migration of legacy applications to Interoperable Cloud Services), running from 2010 to 2013, and providing model-driven methodology and tools, which significantly improve the baseline OMG's Architecture Driven Modernization (ADM) initiative

The main technical contribution of SINTEF will be on the design of the brokerage framework and on the development of techniques and methods for cloud service failure prevention and recovery.
